AS MEDIA COURSEWORK - PRINT

Firstly i did a photo shoot to get the main image for my front cover, this image has to put across a key story. My original idea was to write about the facebook ban were i would take an image of someone behind trying to access facebook however this image didn't work because the text on the computer was to small to see/read. Then i changed my idea to the banning of snow ball fights and the effects the cold weather has had on the college. I used a computer programme called Photoshop to create the front cover of my magazine. I opened my chosen image which i then adjusted the brightness and levels to make my image clearer. To get a suitable font i went on www.dafont.com where i chose a bold, chunky legable font. Finally around my cover i did small sub stories which would feature in the magazine. I still wanted to show the issue of the facebook ban so i took the facebook logo of google then put a red cross through it to represent the ban. I used red, blue and white fonts because they complimented each other and stood out from the background. I wanted my title to be running through the middle as like a banner so it would be one of the first things you see with the white text on a black background. Each of my sub stories had different fonts and sizes to make it more interesting and to make sure the reader doesn't get bored because every things the same. The size of the text reflected the importance of the story so the bigger the text the more important the story was.

I found it easier to make my contence page in Microsoft word because it was a lot easier having just one layer where as on photoshop ever box you create goes on a separate layer. I added text box's and shapes to show were my text or images would be. Once i had layed out the box's so everything could be seen i then imported text from photoshop, however this didn't work out as well as planned because it pasted through as an image so my text had a white background which was noticeable when i changed my contence background to blue. I thought about adding shapes that resembled thought bubbles but i found it over complicated it. I decided to do a typical box for main stories with numbers corresponding to what page the story can be found on. Then i did one smaller box just for quick new bulletins about fashion week. I tried many different composition layouts so i could see were the boxes look best. I chose to use a royal blue background because Winstanley's colour is blue and it also reflects the blue text on the front cover.
