Prelim - Print

For my media prelim the aim was to create a front cover and contents page to be used in the college magazine. Firstly I had to do a photo shoot to get an image suitable for the front cover. The image had to relate to a key story that would be featured on the cover. I chose to use a cover story of Fashion Rocks Winstanley and chose a picture which matched this idea.

I followed a colour scheme in both the front page and contents page of the magazine and matched the colour scheme according to the image I had selected. I then chose a selection of fonts from www.dafont.com in order to make my headline and banner more eyecatching and effective. For the headline I used the effect of a drop shadow in order to make the text stand out against the background. Similarly, for the text in the banner across the centre of my cover had a thick outline around it as I wanted this text to stand out, as it is the main story of the issue.
I then did 4 other cover stories on the magazine and seperated them into different paragraphs on the page. I identified each story by doing a bolder title at the top of the text to draw attention the stories. I did a seperate paragraph in an opposing colour, to signify the main story of the magazine.
I included standard features found in the majority of magazines such as the date of release and bar code. Although I have used techniques I am fairly happy with for a college magazine, I do not feel my front cover would be successful for a final piece of coursework. There are many things wrong with the cover of the prelim which I will change when doing my actual coursework. The image I have taken does not look particularly professional for a front cover as there is a dazrk shadow on the left hand side of the model, which I would not be happy about for a final piece. Also, the paragraphs of text on the sides of the magazine are not justified, this would not be the case in a real magazine, so I would have to change this in my coursework. There is also quite a large gap in bottom left hand corner of the magazine, which I coulf have filled with a smaller image of another paragraph of text. I will hopefully improve on this when it comes to making my final front cover in my coursework.

This is the contents page made for my prelim. It is extremely basic and if it was to be used in a real magazine it would need much more detail. I followed the same colour scheme as my front cover to make the magazine a continuous style, and I used to same font as the front cover. As this is a prelim this is okay but for my real magazine contents i would need to put in much more detail for instance more text pictures and graphics.
