Evaluation Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task (the school magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

In my prelim the main mistake i made was colour. Some of the words are lost in the colour behind them and there's not much variation between the colours. I went a bit mad on 1 particular colour theme! Also the only picture is the main one with no others around such as other stories that may be inside the magazine. The stories aren't very eye catching and the black and white picture is colourful or attractive enough to entice the consumer to buy it.

In my final magazine front cover all the stories can be clearly read and are all eye catching in their own unique way. The main story is clear and there is a picture on the right hand side encouraging people to buy it and look inside. The title stands out and the main picture is striking. its very colourful but not so much that its distracting from the main story, with each mini story having its own area colour and theme.

In terms of the other 6 evaluation questions the process of me making my magazine to the final product has made me realise what consumers want, how to achieve it and small changes can make a huge difference. I learnt how to make it look professional and look like a real media product, what particular audience i was going for and if it was real, how it would be distributed and sold. The main things i have learnt is how to use Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Publisher, an online blog and a proper photo shoot in a studio with a professional camera.

Feedback from my friend Rob and my teacher Greg made me realise what looked good and what didn't. it made me bite my tongue and use pictures and effects that would look good for the magazine even if it wasn't my personal choice. It pointed out to me things that weren't right that could only be seen when stood back looking at it from a different perspective.

I put some of the pictures i had taken in the studio and edited for my front page and waited to see which got the most comments and likes on Facebook. This was the one so i chose it for the front cover.

Evaluation Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
This is how I edited my front page image using Adobe Photoshop

This is how i edited a picture in my double page spread

Evaluation Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

Evaluation Question 3&4

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? &
Who would be the audience for your media product?

Evaluation Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Taylor Swift and Lucie Evans

I chose this image to copy for my magazine as it is fun looking an relaxed rather than a static pose you normally see in a magazine where the model has been told exactly where to stand and what to do like the picture below.

My picture of Lucie is a spur of the moment shot and took me a lot of takes to get the exact image and position that looked right. The shot of Taylor also looks like a spur of the moment capture and may have taken a couple of shots to get the desired look but both are free moving and dynamic shots.

Both pictures have been taken with a white background with white lighting to draw attention to the girls hair that is being flicked around and to make sure all the attention is on them and the background is not distracting.

Taylor's costume is a white t-shirt with a black vest top underneath. This gives the picture a casual daytime look. Lucie's costumes however is again a black vest top but worn look jeans and a black leather jacket. This is because she is going for a rock chick look as it says on the picture and with her having long dark hair it needed to be different to Taylor's blond hair.

My front page picture

My front page picture needed to be smiley and advertising to the audience so i chose a similar pose and feel to the magazine on the right.

Final Front Cover

I changed my front cover to this so the picture is bolder, the main Lucie Evans story is more clear and the layout is better suited to the main items.

Me

Here is me on photoshop doing my contents page

Idea I Used

I used theese on my contents page

I used this for my double page spread and changed Lucas to Lucie

I used this on the right hand corner of my double page spread to add detail.

I used the idea of a large picture on one side with quiesiton and answer on the other side with the questions in one colour and the replies in another so its easy to read. I also used the quick question box in yellow on my second page to get some random facts and fun stuff on the second page.

Double Page Spread

Here is a picture i am going to use somewhere in my double page spread.

I duplicated the layer and then turned the 2nd layer black and white. I then erased away using the eraser tool the bits i wanted to show colour through from the bottom layer to create this picture here.

Double Page Spread

This is my original picture for my double page spread. It has a lot of space on the right for text.

I then, like the front page picture, used a diffused glow to give it a lighter more appealing look.

Double Page Spread

I have just created this fo rmy double page spread to run along the right hand edge of the page to add some more photos and a girly feel to the border of the page

Front Page

This is the original picture i chose for my front page.

I then cropped it to a size that would have more impact

I then cropped it slightly further and added smart blur to smooth her skin. I then erased away her main features such as eyes eyebrows and mouth area so they were clear leaving her skin smooth. I then added a filter effect called Diffuse Glow to give the whole image a glow which will look good on a shiney magazine cover and will attract a young girl audience who look at her and want to look the same.

Photoshoot

Here are some pictures of me doing the photoshoot

I sat on the floor at some points to get the right level and distance to the model
We had pictures of previous magazines and poses on the floor to copy and get ideas from

I moved her hair into place so it looked right for the shot

Fonts

Here are some fonts i may use for my title. I really like the 2nd one down and 5th one down.

Magazine Titles

Here are 6 names i thought about for the title for my magazine. After asking for feedback from people in my class i decided that Tempo was the best choice. It is simple, minimalistic and rolls off the tongue easier than the rest.
