The Final Double Page Spread
Saturday, 8 May 2010
The Final Contents Page
This is my contents page. In my opinion, it links well to the front cover, in that it follows the same colour scheme and has the same classy, sophisticated feel. The font I used is the same all the way through to give a realistic feel. I split the contents into 'NEWS', 'FEATURES' and 'ESSENTIALS' to make it easier for the reader to navigate around the page. I also included a note from the Editor, something that NME does. I feel it gives a personal touch, the look I was going for. As an extra feature to appeal to the target audience further, I added a 'Subscribe today'.

The final front cover
This is my final front cover. I feel although the image doesnt instantly strike as a music magazine the text insinuates this. I used qute neutral colours and fonts of text to give a classy, sophisticated look, enabling me to attract a variety of audiences. The image could attract both genders of a variety of ages, interested in R n B, pop, and slightly indie music. I feel the 'Women in music' banner along the bottom is a key feature, and draws attention to the magazine. If I was to change anything, I would of possibly changed the photoshoot as I feel it looks slightly more of a fashion photo. Inn existing magazines, this isnt an issue as the genre of magazine is already known, but for a new magazine on to the market, this could hinder its sales.

Research - Questionnaire
Research - potential audience questionnaire
1) How old are you? Male or Female?
_______________ ________________
2) What is your preferred style of music?
___________________________________________
3) List your 3 favourite female artists.

These questions will help me to determine my target audience. It will indicate which genre of music is most popular amongst certain ages and genders. Also, it will show me what type of artist is most popular to feature on the front cover.

Magazine Mastheads
To find a name for my magazine, I researched existing magazines. I want my magazine to predominantly feature R&B music, so I focused mainly on these magazines. For example:
- Vibe (Urban music & R&B)
- NME (Rock & Pop)
- MOJO (Rock)
- Q
- Rolling Stones
I also brainstormed ideas, through research and using 'Thesaurus.com' and a Spanish dictionary to give alternatives and synonyms of words related to music. So far I have come up with:
- Echo
- Silence
- Music
- Rock
- Armonia
- Acoustic
M (music)
After considering all of these mastheads, I have decided I like 'Armonia' and 'Echo'. 'Armonia' means harmony in Italian. This links with music and possibly the genre of the magazine. I also like 'Echo'.
However, I have chosen to use 'M' (meaning music) as I feel it suits my magazine, hints at the genre and fits the feel of my magazine perfectly.
Existing Contents Pages

'Vibe' has a very unique look on its contents pages, clearly distinguishing which magazine it is. The contents page is predominantly a photo of the music artist, with minimal text on it. However, this is iconic of a 'Vibe' contents, attracting the target audiene. Also, the word 'contents' is positioned in an unusual way:
CO
NTEN
TS
another iconic feature of 'Vibe'.

When completing my own contents page, I will attempt to include an iconic or unique layout as to ensure I attract my target audience over other magazines.

Inspirations
My inspirations for my final product are some recent photos of Cheyl cole. I feel they are classy and sophisticated, with a certain classy feel to them. It is obvious they are from a music magazine, without need for any text. I would like to copy this idea, but do the shoot in a studio so as to give a different feel to the photo. For text, I used this cover of 'Q' as my inspiration. I have chosen the name 'M' which will be similar to the layout and style of 'Q'. I like the colour scheme, and the positioning of the stories and main headline.
For my contents page, I have taken several contents from 'Q' and 'Vibe' magazine to use as inspiration as they have a similar layout and look to them that I wish to emulate.

Preliminary Contents Page

On my contents page i have used a blue fade background and a similar colour for the titles of my stories. For my final product, I will change this to contrasting colours so the story will be clear, easier to read and so the background is aesthetically pleasing for the audience. I will also include more pictures that are quintessential for the magazine to become more interesting for the reader as it becomes more interesting and appealing.
Media Prelim

For my media prelimenary task, I had to create a front cover and contents page for a college magazine. I used basic fonts for all texts on the front cover which i think restricts the appeal of the stories i have used as there are no eye-catching fonts or sizes, for my final product i will use dafont.com to use a range and variety of texts to ensure that the reader is attracted to the title of my magazine and inticed by the stories i have chosen. The picture i have used for this prototype suits the genre of magazine as it was for a college magazine so the picture is relative to the audience and so students will buy the magazine however for my final product i will use a studio to create a professional look for the image on the front cover and to ensure there is no background that will distract the reader from the main story lines andf genre of magazine i want to sell which is music.

Existing front covers
Vibe is a music and entertainment magazine that's publication predominantly features R&B and hip-hop music artists. It's issued quarterly and it's target market is young, urban followers of hip-hop culture. The image is of Beyonce Knowles, and, along with the bold masthead, is the most dominant feature on the cover, attracting the eye of the target audience. The use of minimal and simple, yet bright colours, keeps the magazine classy and sophisticated.
