POP SUGAR LOGO

Now I know my magazine is of a 'pop' genre and is targeting an audience of 12-17 year olds I can develop my ideas. I've decided to make my female audience my priority as teen girls are typically first to buy into the idea of being 'fan' and buying such magazines. I will name my magazine 'popsugar'. I think this is a suitable name as it uses the word 'pop' and gives a clear indication of the genre, it's also feminime and will attracts my female audience. I think it promotes an image of youth and innocence, a 'sweet' magazine if you will. My first task is to design how i will present the name. When researching i noted there were two different options, you can employ a logo style title or a headline style. I chose the logo style, below is images of how i constructed my logo;
1. i used font site 'dafont' and downloaded and installed the font onto my macbook pro. the font was ideal as it was cartoon style, girly, youthful and genuinely 'pop'. 2. i used a bright pink colour that was already a default on my photoshop elements. i decided to produce a logo rather than a headline so i positioned the sugar below. the 'pop' is bigger as it is the focus. 3. i toyed with the idea of a background. i liked this example the most but next to an image i felt there were too many colours in a short space. even though my research suggested bright colours were a successful technique i found the clash of colours of putting. 4. here is an example of one logo i used on a draft of the cover to avoid excess colours i removed the background, these editing processes were made simple because of photoshop. It looked rather bare though so i added purple borders above and below and also added a 'new' sign that you often see on new productions. The purple and pink proved a great combination and one i later employed in other apsects. I was still not content however with the effect of the pop sugar 'logo'.
5. For a further edit i removed the lined borders and added a stroke effect from photoshop. I liked the combination of purple and pink as it was a perfect representation of my female magazine. I also kept the 'new' sign as it is a typical convention of magazine covers and therefore adds authenticity to my product.
6. here is an example of my last edit of the logo on a draft of my front cover. I am positive it has the simplicity but effectiveness to become a memorable symbol signified with pop music. It achieves my main aim which was to create a youthful 'bouncy' and fun logo.
Now i am going to work on perfecting the rest of my front cover, and then my other two print pieces.
