We found that the news bulletin for Smooth radio seemed very dull and tedious compared to that of Radio 1's. Though this bulletin does incorporate a music jiggle to introduce the news, it is low and monotonous toned which soon fades out, leaving only the news reader's voice. I found that although this may emphasise the severity of particular news stories, it does not engage the listener and so can seem dreary and unexciting. There is also no means of linking or allowing each individual story to flow into the next, making the whole bulletin seem choppy and uneven. We therefore decided that following this research, Smooth FM's severe style is not our chosen direction.
