Se7en (1995)
Starring Morgan Freeman as the older experienced detective who works alongside Brad Pitt as the young rookie. The film takes you from the tortured remains of one body to the next as the two detectives desperatley attempt to hunt down the murderer who justifies his crimes as an absolution for the worlds ignornace of the seven deadly sins. We liked the idea that the murderer leaves his victims exposed and shows no attempt to cover up his actions, he is smart and always one step ahead of the detectives. This is the mentality we want our anonymous killer to convey.
We liked the various shots of the killers hands in Se7en, it was perverse and disturbing looking at a murderers hands in such detail. We decided to show various shots of our killers hands like in Se7en however we are going to use a computer, instead of focusing all the attention on the killers hands there will be shots of the three actors faces on the screen. This gives the audience the impression that the killer is smarter than the detectives in this film which makes our film different to other crime films.
The Watcher (2000)
The Watcher stars Keanu Reeves, James Spader and Marisa Tomei. It is a thriller, set in Chicago, Illinois and is about a retired FBI agent who is stalked by a serial killer.
Spader plays the lead role of "Joel Campbell", the retired agent who is attending therapy sessions due to a failure in his previous job - he is lonely and seeks meaning in life. Reeves is the killer, "David Griffin", who enters the film by an eerie midnight phone call to Spader, an effective way to show the vulnerability of the detective and the confidence of the psychotic killer. Finally, we have Marisa Tomei's therapist, who helps Spader get to grips with his deteriorating mental state. Ben's character in our piece could share a similar relationship with one of the lead detectives.
