AS MEDIA COURSEWORK

Research
Front covers

I like this magazine cover because it simply stood out, the image looked as if it was coming off the page and the text grabbed my attention. They have used simple yet effective colours. The image covers most of the magazines title but it is still recognizable as it is a well known magazine. i would like to try this for my front cover.

This magazine cover was mainly about pictures which my target audience of between 15-19 will enjoy because teenagers don't like to read a lot so pictures say a thousand words and keeps my audience interested and engaged. They have also used simple colours of black, white and red which compliment each other and stand out.

NME magazine is what i would like my magazine to resemble as it contains indie and rock music. I like the band image because they look relaxed and funny. I also really like the use of the bright yellow text which was the first thing to catch my eye as well as the simple text. The stories are around the outside of the magazine so they don't take focus of the main image.

Contents pages

This contents page really strikes me because of the wide range of colour and pattern, the stories are easy to spot out and are attached to clear relevant images. The band images appeal to my target audience and gives the reader a chance to see who they are reading about. The text is a mixture of graffiti and block hand written script which is easy to read as the text is white against a black background. I have seen many suitable fonts on http://www.dafont.com/ which have a wide variety of graffitti, hand written, sript and block fonts which would be ideal for my front cover. The sub headings dotted around the page are also interesting i would also like to try this by using quotes from bands, lyrics or reviews.

This contents page is good however it has too much writing and information, people get bored easily and lose interest when they see that there is a lot of text involved. So i want my contents page to be half and half with images and text. I also like the use of numbering the stories so the reader knows what page to find these stories on. In most magazine covers there is a pannel running down the left hand side with news or bits of information i would like to do this and have tour dates and festival information as leeds and V festival is around the corner.

This contents page looks more like one page of a double page spread because there is a lot of text in paragraphs compared to the normal bullet points. However i like the big image at the top of the page because it immediately caught my attention and i knew what it would be about, i would like to use this as a template for my double page spread because there are a lot of good ideas on the page.
