Photoshoot 1 - Research

I have looked at images from a well known music photographer Guy Eppell to inspire my first photoshoot for my magazine. Guy Eppell takes very grungey/rock style photos which is the type of images I will want to take for my magazine.

Guy Eppel has photographed artists such as Pete Doherty and Oasis, these are the type of artists I would wish to feature in my own magazine. The main aspects I notice from his work are the clothing/props/lighting and location of the images which convey the artists in specific ways. For example the image of Pete Doherty is quite raw and natural as the image has been taken in black and white and blemishes remain in the picture, giving it a grungey feel.

Other images are more dramatic through the use of location. I will aim to use atleast one outdoor location in my magazine to add variety to my photographs.

The first image I looked at is very upfront. It is a facial shot with a great deal of expression from the artist and immediately grabs attention. The lighting is quite dark which again dramatises this look. For my front cover I will probably do a facial shot as I feel it captures the most attention which is important for a front cover. To fit in with the style of clothing found on the artists I will keep in with stereotypical indie/rock clothes.
